Q. Why do I pay a £45.00 deposit?

We take a £45.00 deposit to secure your booking. Once your vehicle has been remapped by one of our technicians, you will be requested to pay the balance for the service. The balance for the service is paid at the time the work is carried out.

Q. How does the remap improve the vehicle?

Our custom engine remap alters the fuel, boost and torque characteristics of the enginey controlling the fuel pressure, injected fuel quantity, maximum permissible visible smoke limit, boost pressure from the turbocharger and the torque characteristic. A remap offers a fully controllable change to the engine characteristics, whilst still operating with full engine feedback control and within all the preset engine sensor limits.

Q. Does it affect the manufacturers warranty?

The remap is invisible to manufacturer’s diagnostic equipment. Additionally many forward thinking manufacturers turn a blind eye to a quality remapping service, knowing that a properly enhanced vehicle can only ever benefit them.

Q. Is engine remapping the same as engine chipping?

Chipping is an older version of what remapping is today. Chipping involves the ECU being physically opened, replacing the main microchip with a modified microchip.

Q. Can the re-map be detected by dealer servicing?

No. Your car dealer cannot determine a software modification with his equipment as our software is designed to be invisible to all engine diagnostic equipment.

Q. Can I use my original ECU software again?

All that is changed is the software within your ECU. We keep a copy of your original software on file so we can simply programme it back should you require us to do so.

Q. Will a remap reduce my engines life expectancy?

No, The power reserves of the engine are so large, that you don't have to expect more engine wear. We optimise the fuel and ignition curves without exceeding the limits of your car's engine.

Q. What about my fuel consumption?

With the same driving style, improvements in fuel consumption of up to 20% are possible, especially in turbo diesel powered engines. Economy tuning can have a dramatic effect on fuel consumption, with considerable improvements being achieved along with huge money savings on fuel.

Even on a performance tune on TDI vehicles, if you continue to drive the car in the same way as you did before the upgrade, your fuel consumption will probably improve. Of course if you have a performance map installed on a car like a Porsche for instance, and you are driving the car under the conditions with which a race map is intended, you're likely to find a slightly reduced miles per gallon figure.

Q. Will I need to upgrade the chassis or brakes?

No, you don't need to upgrade the chassis or brakes after the remapping. This is optional.

Q. Will my engine run hotter after remapping?

The temperature, at worst, will rise by a very small amount (only on full power). On average, this is between 5-8 degrees. Most modern cars however have no problem at all dissipating the heat from a mild power upgrade and will not see any temperature change whatsoever.

Q. Is there a limit to how many times a vehicle can be remapped?

There is no limit to the number of times a vehicle can be remapped, we are constantly improving our optimization software, and so further gains may be possible in the future.

Q. Should I notify my insurance provider?

Whilst the upgrade is undetectable to dealer equipment, the responsible answer to this question has to be yes, your insurance company should be notified. However, many insurance companies do not penalise you for upgrades of this nature, particularly if you're tuning for increased economy. Adrian Flux is one such company.

Q. In what RPM range is the extra power released?

On most vehicles you will feel the power over the entire power band of the engine, but especially in the lower and middle rev range.

Q. Why does a turbo-charged vehicle gain so much more power as a result of tuning / remapping than a normally aspirated vehicle?

The turbocharger is a device for compressing air into the Engine Cylinder above atmospheric pressure. The level to which it is pumped is determined by the turbocharger size and the waste gate actuator. This conditioned air allows much more fuel to be burnt within a given cubic capacity cylinder size than can be achieved under normal atmospheric pressure. The engine management system is modified in timing and fuelling so that the engine effectively responds as if it has larger CC. This extra air / fuel can achieve, in some instances, 100% more power and torque through remapping. The normally aspirated engine can achieve 10% more power and torque by careful programming of fuel pulse and ignition maps and further power is available if camshafts, exhaust pipes, air filters and high octane fuel are in use.

Q. Why was my vehicle not given this extra power from the factory?

The engineers who developed the engines know this extra power and torque is available, however, due to some engines enormous operational range encountered around the world such as varying fuel octane, air temperatures and altitudes, a safe all round compromise is adopted by the manufacturers to suit all these conditions and fuel economy and exhaust emissions regulations. Compromises are also left in the programmes to cater for the owners who refuse to follow service schedules and insist on using the worst fuel possible. Our task as at APR Remaps is to clear these compromises and produce a program more suited to the enthusiastic driver who looks after their vehicle and knows what they want from an engine. We optimise the software that runs your engine in many different ways, yet we still leave the reserves necessary to assure absolute reliability.

Q. Do you operate on a national level in the UK?

Yes. We operate throughout the UK and Ireland. If however we cannot service your order due to your location, we will refund your deposit immediately.

Q. What is the difference between ecu remapping and a tuning box?

The majority of tuning boxes on the market today will only increase the fuel pressure and injection periods. You will not get an even spread of power due to the delay in the tuning box circuitry processing sensor signals. This results in spikes in the power. With re-mapping, these problems are eliminated as the ECU processes everything along with adjusting the torque limiters and turbo limiters, which a tuning box cannot access.

Q. After a remap, how will the vehicle drive?

Whether you choose an Eco-MAP, Hybrid remap or a Performance-Map remap, you will notice a marked improvement in your driving experience. Under acceleration the vehicle will be more reactive and provide improved throttle response. The smooth acceleration which a remap provides enables safer overtaking and better all-round performance. As the vehicle is being provided with more power earlier on in the rev ranges, fewer gear changes are required, which will ensure a more enjoyable and relaxing drive.

Q. How soon after I purchase your service and pay the deposit, can I expect to get my vehicle remapped?

After receiving your order and deposit we will contact you within 24 hours (Monday to Friday) to arrange a mutually convenient time to meet and remap your vehicle. You will be requested to pay the balance for the service on the day the remap is carried out on your car.

Q. Is remapping legal?

Yes. Remapping your vehicle is entirely legal and there is no law against this. Each remap which we carry out is done so within the manufacturer safety tolerance zones.

Q. You do not list my vehicle - Can you help?

Our vehicle lists are being updated on a regular basis. If you do not see your vehicle listed please contact us for more information as we may still be able to remap it.
